The Parts of the MORE Machine

It’s good to examine the accounts that comprise your machine. Some accounts will become less relevant over time as new companies and their associated accounts provide you more value. For instance, my Apple Credit Card gives me 3% back on Apple products. A $2,000 purchase will get me $60 back – not bad. Additionally it was easy to apply and it increased my available credit by $20,000 which increased my credit score! nice win. Another example is TastyWorks/TastyTrade. I started trading options at OptionsHouse which then converted to ETRADE. Neither really helped me grow financially. However, TastyWorks/TastyTrade built an ecosystem (live online commentary, live trades, and high-value trading platform) that helped me understand how to trade options and propel me forward. I highly recommend their platform for learning and trading options. Use my referral code to help us both out!

At some point I’ll probably consolidate accounts to reduce the number of places i have to go to track my net worth. Now that all major brokerages have gone to $0, I think I’ll consolidate my Robinhood, ETRADE, TD Ameritrade and maybe my TastyWorks accounts first.

Here are the accounts. Any you’d recommend switching up?!

Spending/Saving Accounts

  1. USAA Checking – Great mobile app with a no fee checking account
  2. USAA Credit Card – Great cash back rewards with great digital service
  3. USAA Savings – More convenience that rate
  4. Capital One Savings – for personal savings
  5. Marcus Savings & CD – family savings at a decent rate
  6. Banana Republic Card – decent rewards + 10% discount.
  7. Apple Credit Card – super easy to apply for, awesome physical titanium card, and 3% back on Apple products. Nice.

Debt Accounts

  1. US Bank Home Mortgage – USAA sold my mortgage off to USB :(. platform is okay. rate is good @ 3.375
  2. Capital One auto loan – 1.5% interest for my car and my wife’s car. acceptable rates

Investment Accounts

  1. Company 401k – not sure who the provider is, but my S&P500 expense ratio is 0.01%
  2. TD Ameritrade Roth – i tried trading options in here at one point but gave up and am long TSLA (bad idea) and AAPL (good idea)
  3. Vanguard Roth IRA – low expense ratios, bad international fund :/, good target retirement fund
  4. Vanguard Rollover – low expense ratios for VTSAX
  5. Fidelity 401k – need to do something with this account
  6. TIAA 403b – active employer 401k account
  7. Robinhood Brokerage – $0 trades
  8. TastyWorks Brokerage (options) – low commission option trades
  9. Capital One Investing ETRADE – first brokerage account was through sharebuilder, then CapitalOne Investing and now ETRADE. just your regular old buy and hold account
  10. LendingClub – decent experiment, bad returns on relatively good credit notes.
  11. Microventures – interesting experiment with only investment of $250 in a local restaurant

Previous accounts

  1. WiseBanyan – interesting robo-advisor experiment with 0bps advisory fee and vanguard funds. liquidated!
  2. Acorns – interesting experiment; good for novice savers and investors; high fees if you don’t have a lot of money
  3. OptionsHouse/ETRADE – initial foray into options before moving to Thinkorswim and then tastytrade
  4. Coinbase – bitcoin mania got me for a bit. Luckily i wised up and sold my tulips
  5. Prosper – another p2p lending experiment
  6. Sofi – paid of student loan. I had refinanced at a lower rate and received a $300 cash bonus
  7. Blue Nile Comenity Credit Card – 0% interest for my engagement ring
  8. WellsFargo – 0% interest on our wonderful mattress

That’s all of them!

Here’s a fun Bank Account checking song.
